WeUAO’s current advocacy work centers on a cause that is critically underfunded and widely overlooked: access to dental care in underserved communities.
Advocacy Mission
WeUAO is the advocacy arm of We Unite As One — and it exists for one reason: to use the power of film to bring attention to the people, places, and issues that need it most.
We believe that documentary storytelling is one of the most powerful tools for creating real-world awareness and change. When a story is told with honesty, craft, and compassion, it reaches people in ways that data and statistics simply cannot. It builds empathy. It shifts perspectives. It moves people to act.
That belief is at the heart of everything WeUAO creates.
Behind the Purpose
WeUAO was founded by Dr. Viviane Winthrop — filmmaker, storyteller, and doctor of dentistry — whose career has been defined by a commitment to serving those who are most often left behind.
With over two decades of experience managing dental care facilities across diverse populations in California and Arizona, Dr. Winthrop has seen firsthand what it means when communities go without care. In addition to private practice, she has served as Supervising Dentist for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), as Chief Dentist in the Department of State Hospitals (DSH), and as Dental Director of a community health center in Arizona where dental services were simply not available for many years.
It is this experience — combined with her work as a documentary filmmaker — that makes WeUAO’s advocacy uniquely credible, deeply personal, and urgently necessary.
