We Unite As One

Advocacy

Some stories don’t just move people. They change things.

Our Purpose

Advocacy Through
Film

WeUAO®, pronounced ‘we-you-aye-oh’ is the advocacy arm of We Unite As One® — and it exists for one reason: to use the power of film to bring attention to the people, places, and issues that need it most.

We believe that documentary storytelling is one of the most powerful tools for creating real-world awareness and change. When a story is told with honesty, craft, and compassion, it reaches people in ways that data and statistics simply cannot. It builds empathy. It shifts perspectives. It moves people to act.

Through film, media, and public advocacy initiatives, we aim to promote improved access to dental care for underserved communities regionally and globally — through educational and promotional campaigns, organizational and charitable outreach, strategic partnerships, and policy advocacy conducted in collaboration with professional organizations.

That belief is at the heart of everything WeUAO creates.

Our Focus

Dental Health in
Underserved Communities

WeUAO®‘s current advocacy work centers on a cause that is critically underfunded and widely overlooked: access to dental care in underserved communities.

Oral health is not a luxury — it is deeply connected to overall physical health, mental well-being, and quality of life. Yet for millions of people, access to basic dental care remains out of reach. The consequences are real, lasting, and largely invisible to the broader public.

Through short documentary films and educational videos, WeUAO is working to change that — bringing these stories to light and building the kind of awareness that leads to meaningful action.

“I think it’s time for all aspects of dentistry to be included in essential health.”

Dr. Winthrop’s career has been defined by a commitment to serving those who are most often left behind. With over two decades of experience managing dental care facilities across diverse populations in California and Arizona, she has seen firsthand what it means when communities go without care.

In addition to private practice, she has served as Supervising Dentist for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), as Chief Dentist in the Department of State Hospitals (DSH), and as Dental Director of a community health center in Arizona where dental services were simply not available for many years.

It is this experience — combined with her work as a documentary filmmaker — that makes WeUAO’s advocacy uniquely credible, deeply personal, and urgently necessary.
